High school roundup: Turlock, Escalon, TC all win one-hit shutouts
Turlock High dominated Atwater in the Central California Conference baseball opener for both schools on Tuesday, pounding out 17 hits and limiting the Falcons to one in a 20-0 victory at Memorial Ballpark.
The Bulldogs (5-8) got a combined one-hitter from Damon Treadwell and Jacob Becerra.
Blaine Weber was 4 for 4 with three RBIs, Tate Soderstrome was 3 for 4 with two RBIs, Jon Temple was 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs and Brandon Booz was 2 for 4 with three RBIs for Turlock.
Escalon 11, Riverbank 0 in Riverbank – Robby Rickman and Brian Warren had three hits apiece as the Cougars pounded out 14. Rickman was also the winning pitcher, allowing just one hit as he improved to 4-2.
Turlock Christian 13, Sierra Ridge/ROP 0 in Turlock – The Eagles had just six hits but were aided by six Rams errors. The Rams managed just one hit.
Brynn David was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and two RBIs for Turlock Christian (4-3). Soren Jerner earned the victory for the Eagles, fanning 10 and walking one in the five-inning, mercy-rule shortened contest.
Girls soccer
Ripon Christian 4, Waterford 1 in Waterford – Julia Ray scored off Abby Buitrago’s corner kick, snapping a 1-1 tie and propelling the Knights to a key Trans-Valley League victory. Ripon Christian is 4-0 in conference; Waterford is 4-1.
Buitrago, Rachel Faure and Cynthia Van Vliet also scored for Ripon Chrisitan. Van Vliet’s goal tied the score 1-1 after Jolene Vanderstoel’s goal put the Wildcats up 10 minutes into the contest.
Buitrago’s goal was the 100th off her high school career.
Boys golf
Gregori, Enochs, Downey win – Chris Ebster, Greg Jalli and Michael Doll each fired a par 36 to lead Gregroi past Johansen 193-264 at Creekside. Daniel Pena carded a 36 to lead the Vikings. At Muni, Austin Haverdink carded a 3-over 38 to lead Enochs to a 232-243 win over Modesto. At 36 Dryden, Downey defeated Davis 218-269, getting 6-over 42s from Trae Sousa and Erick Norris.
Ripon Christian 177, Gustine 238 at St. Stanislaus – Ryan Garcia carded a 3-over 31 to lead the Knights. Rian Koetsier shot a 32 and Drew Bakker a 34 for Ripon Christian.
Boys tennis
Gregori 8, Beyer 1 – Ryan Lewis, The Bee’s reigning Player of the Year, defeated Zak Hijaouy 6-0, 6-3 for the Pats’ lone victory. The Jaguars thoroughly dominated the rest of the action, as Ken Whang Andrew Ng and Emilio Takenaga were 6-0, 6-0 winners, as were the doubles tandem of Jake Lynch and Thai Nguyen.
Downey 7, Modesto 2 – The Panthers’ Coby McCaig defeated Nick Mendez 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 1 singles match, but Downey won three pivotal three-set matches to seal the victory.
Hans Beeler defeated Liam Coyle 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 singles; Matt Ciccarelli beat Anthony Mejia 7-6, 4-6, 12-10 at No. 4 singles; and Charlie Elste and Brett Shank teamed to best Donato Cipponeri and Daniel Choahn 1-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Enochs 7, Johansen 2 – Sohun Pachal defeated Michael Slyursarchuk 6-2, 6-2 to take the No. 1 singles match for the Eagles. In doubles action, Enochs’ Mina Elsakr and Ethan Clark dropped the first set in their match against Matthew Wilcox and Ravneel Prasad and then rallied for 6-7 (7-5), 6-0, 6-2 victory.
