Roundup: Turlock baseball drops two games at Boras Classic in Sacramento
Turlock High School gave up eight runs in the sixth inning and fell to Maria Carrillo of Santa Rosa 14-3 in Monday’s opener of the Boras Classic.
The Boras Classic is a 32-team tournament with games contested in Northern and Southern California, featuring some of the state’s top talent.
Games in the NorCal bracket are played at Sacramento’s McAuliffe Baseball Complex.
Knocked into the losers’ bracket, the Bulldogs then lost to Saint Francis of Mountain View 5-3.
Against Carrillo, Turlock trailed 6-0 before halving the deficit with three in the bottom of the third on Tate Soderstrom’s two-run single to right and a sacrifice fly by Jon Temple.
The score remained 6-3 until the sixth inning, when Pumas struck for eight runs on five hits, two walks, two errors and a passed ball.
In the second game, the Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead on Peyton Dunseth’s RBI single – Dunseth was a combined 4 for 7 in the two games – but saw that lead evaporate when Saint Francis struck for four in the fourth.
Turlock made it a one-run game with two runs in the sixth, but the Lancers added an insurance run in the seventh on Andrew Martinez’s solo homer to left.
The Bulldogs (5-3) will play at 10 a.m. Wednesday against either Stockdale or Heritage of Brentwood.
