Beyer, Enochs, Modesto stay undefeated in MMC baseball standings

Trevor Ravelli blasted a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning to propel Beyer High School to a 7-6 victory over Gregori on a cold and soggy Monday afternoon.

With the victory, the Patriots joined Modesto and Enochs at 4-0 in the Modesto Metro Conference.

The Panthers defeated Downey 4-3 on Monday while the Eagles topped Johansen 7-0.

Beyer and Gregori, along with Modesto-Downey and Enochs-Johansen, will square off two more times this week. Usually, MMC teams play a three-game set Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Because of Good Friday, the teams will meet again Wednesday and Thursday.

With the score knotted 6-6 in the bottom of the seventh, Beyer’s Ryan Frakes (3 for 4) led off with a single to right against Gregori reliever Matt Dallas.

Chase Fetzer sacrificed Frakes to second before Andrew Enwiya struck out looking for the second out. Tyler Orique singled to keep the inning alive, and Chris Alonzo walked to load the bases.

Ravelli strode to the plate with a plan.

“Going up to the plate I was thinking first-pitch fastball,” said Ravelli, who had three hits. “He was kind of taking a while, so I called time, stepped out the box, got back in and knew he was going to be there.”

Ravelli put a good lick on it, blasting the ball to straightaway center over Tyler Vandemark. It was probably a double, maybe a triple, but when Frakes crossed the plate, Ravelli’s blast officially went into the book as a single.

“I had to go back and touch the base,” Ravelli said. “I missed the bag rounding first.”

Gregori did a good job of elevating the pitch count of Beyer southpaw Kevin Duffy, who left in the seventh after throwing 136 pitches.

“The arm feels good now,” Duffy said. “We’ll see how it feels tomorrow.”

The Patriots took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, gave it back in the top of the second, then regained the lead with two more in the bottom of the frame.

Gregori tied it with in the fifth when John Hernandez laced a two-run single to center.

The Pats regained the lead in their half of the fifth, only to see the Jaguars tie in the sixth when Roberto Flores scored on a bunt by Hector Guerrero.

Enochs 7, Johansen 0 at Johansen – C.J. Hackett allowed three hits over six innings, striking out seven and walking none, to shut down the Vikings. Hackett got all the support he’d need when the Eagles scored twice in the first inning.

Jordan Davidson went 3 for 4 for Enochs, while Chris Butterfield, Aaron Davis, Adrian Gonzales and Kyle Fulbright had two hits apiece.

Modesto 4, Downey 3 at Downey – Dylon Jackson was 3 for 4 with a double and picked up the victory on the mound. Trent Pokes and Max McCabe each collected two hits for the Panthers. Rocci Vizzusi was 2 for 3 for the Knights.
