Beyer, Enochs, Modesto all 3-0 in conference baseball standings
Beyer, Enochs and Modesto high schools all made it unscathed through the first week of Modesto Metro Conference baseball action.
The league’s new format calls for teams to face an opponent three times in one week – Monday, Wednesday and Friday – and then be done with that foe for the season (unless they should meet in the playoffs).
Beyer didn’t allow a run against Downey, winning 5-0, 4-0, 6-0. Enochs handled Davis just as easily, winning 7-1, 18-3 and 10-3. Modesto also had little trouble, topping Johansen 8-4, 11-1, 10-0.
Starting Monday, Gregori faces Beyer in a battle of the reining MMC co-champs, Enochs takes on Johansen and Modesto tangles with Downey. Davis has the league bye.
On Friday, Pats right fielder Jordan Walls belted a three-run homer in the fifth inning to put the game out of reach, while the Eagles’ Chris Butterfield went 4-for-4 with three steals and three runs scored. The Panthers’ Max McCabe was 2-for-4 with a home run, double and three RBIs.
Gregori fell to Merced 1-0 in a nonleague matchup Friday.
Monday’s games get underway at 3:45 p.m.
