Prep roundup: Big Valley Christian’s Alec Butler wins Hilmar golf tournament
Sophomore Alec Butler of Big Valley Christian High School shot a 2-over-par 74 on Monday to win the individual title at the Hilmar Yellowjacket Invitational at the Golf Club at Roddy Ranch in Antioch.
Buhach Colony took second in the team standings with a score of 327, two strokes behind Los Altos. The Thunder’s Justin Pasley finished second individually with a 76, and teammate Shane Watts placed eighth with an 80.
Also carding rounds in the 70s were Bret Harte’s Mitchell Menzes (76), Mariposa’s Mark Maddox (77) and Escalon’s Zack Gardner (79).
De La Salle Invitational in Danville – Central Catholic recorded a team score of 363 at Crow Canyon Country Club, three shots behind runner-up Archbishop Mitty of San Jose and eight shots behind champion Saint Francis of Mountain View.
Individually for Central Catholic, Matt Robinson tied for second with a 1-under 68. Teammates Nick O’Brien (71), Tyler Ward (72), Michael Kelley (74) and Bryce Wade (78) shot in the 70s.
Baseball
Modesto 8, Johansen 4 at Modesto HS – The Panthers evened their record at 3-3 with a win in the Modesto Metro Conference opener for both teams. Trent Prokes, Tyler Shafer and Dylon Jackson drove in two runs apiece for Modesto. Pokes, Shafer, Carmelo Figueroa and Jordan Cornejo collected two hits apiece for the Panthers. Efrain Solano and Ivan Betances had two hits each for the Vikings.
Turlock game rained out – The Bulldogs’ game Monday against Lincoln of Stockton was rescheduled for Thursday in Turlock.
Girls soccer
Central Valley 3, Livingston 1 at Central Valley – The Hawks remained undefeated with a win over the Wolves in a Western Athletic Conference opener. Central Valley (7-0-1) went 3-0-1 in taking second place at the Pitman tournament, followed by a 3-0 mark in taking its tournament title.
