Roundup: Pitman closes out Pedretti Tournament with win over Modesto
Pitman High closed the 32nd annual Atch Pedretti Baseball Tournament with a 2-1 record, beating Modesto High 7-4 in its final game of the tournament on Thursday.
Modesto, which split a pair of games Thursday, wrapped up the two-day event with a 1-2 mark.
Joey Romeo was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs for the Pride, who improved to 5-1 on the season. Mike Alvarado was 3-for-3 with three RBIs for Modesto (2-3), while teammates Dylon Jackson and Tyler Shafer collected two hits each.
Sierra 6, Turlock 4 at Turlock – After the Bulldogs let a two-run lead slip away, they came back to tie the score with a pair of runs in the fourth, only to see the Timberwolves add single runs in the fifth and sixth to secure the Pedretti Tournament win. Tate Soderstrom, who was 3-for-3 in the Bulldogs’ 11-4 loss to Gregori, came back with two hits in four trips against Sierra.
Enochs 5, Escalon 3 at Enochs – Chris Butterfield was 1-for-3 with a pair of RBIs in the Eagles’ five-run second inning. Kyle Fulbright also drove in a run for Enochs. The Cougars’ Robbie Rickman was 2-for-3 with a double, while Dylan Azevedo drove in a pair during Escalon’s three-run sixth.
Tennis
Enochs 5, Downey 4 – The Eagles’ No. 2 doubles tandem of Jack Wu and Ethan Clark won in three sets as Enochs outlasted the Knights and improved to 4-0 in the Modesto Metro Conference. Wu and Clark beat Jason Chhay and Kenneth Azevedo 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in the key match of the day.
Nick Mendez, the Knights’ No. 1 singles player, defeated Sohun Panchal 6-2, 6-1.
Gregori 6, Modesto 2 – The Panthers’ Coby McCaig blanked Zak Hijaouy 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 1 singles match, and teammate Riley Noland topped Ken Whang 7-5, 6-4 at No. 2, but the Jaguars won the remaining six matches, highlighted by Brian Felton’s 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 win over Anthony Mejia in the No. 3 singles contest.
Johansen 9, Davis 0 – Michael Slyursarchuk won the No. 1 singles match, and Jose Herrera and Matthew Wilson teamed to take the No. 1 doubles contest for the Vikings. James Vongphairoth won the No. 3 singles match in three sets, 6-3, 5-7, 6-2.
Central Catholic 6, Oakdale 3 – Devin Odom defeated Blaine Rocha in three sets, 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, at No. 3 singles, and Conor Fenton earned a win at No. 1 singles for CC to help the Raiders earn a Valley Oak League victory. Jacob Pierson and Tyler Ross won at No. 1 doubles for Oakdale.
Golf
Gregori 205, Enochs 226 at Creekside – Chris Ebster shot 39, and Greg Jalli and K.J. Dieker each fired 40s to lead the Jaguars to a Modesto Metro Conference victory.
Austin Haverdink shot 40 to lead Enochs, while Sody Veras and Erik Nguyen each came in at 43.
Beyer 233, Davis 295 at Modesto Municipal – Scotty Lucas carded a 5-over-par 40, while Zac Tobias shot 41 to lead the Patriots to an MMC victory.
Downey 221, Modesto 274 at Dryden – Eric Norris shot 38 to lead the Knights to an MMC win, while teammates Hunter Jones and Henry Hauschildt carded matching 42s. Michael Days and Matthew Lawler shot 43s to lead the Panthers.
