High school roundup: Williams a force in Hughson’s baseball win over Davis

Grant Williams struck out 11 and allowed three hits in Hughson High School’s 12-2 victory over Grace Davis on Tuesday.

Williams also went 3 for 4 with three RBIs . Jeffery Jackson was 4 for 4 with an RBI, while Andruw Mendes was 3 for 3 with four RBIs. Walter Fountain and Colin Miller each had two hits for the Huskies (1-2-1).

Micah Irwin, Emanuel Rivera and Dylan Carnly had hits for the Spartans (0-3-1).

Tennis

Enochs 8, Beyer 1 – Ryan Lewis, The Bee’s 2015 Player of the Year, was responsible for the Patriots’ lone point, beating Sohun Panchal 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 1 singles match of a Modesto Metro Conference matchup.

Michael Apostol, Jon Word, George Dominse, Rajvir Nahal and Isaac Tullis recorded singles wins for the Eagles, while Enochs’ tandems of Jackie Wu and Ethan Clark, Mina Elsakr and Garrett Nance and Ryan Jabola an Tino Phommalinh also were victorious.

Gregori 9, Davis 0 – Zak Hijaouy, Ken Whang, Andrew Ng, Brian Felton, Ian Felton and Colin Soderstrom won singles matches for the Jaguars, as did the duos of Stephen Granberg and Helder Serrado, Roel Dahuya and Emilio Takenaga and Jacob Lynch and Ethan Switzer.

Downey 5, Johansen 4 – The Knights’ Kade Nomof won the No. 6 singles match 6-2, 0-6, 6-2. It was the only match that went to a third set.

Golf

Gregori 202, Modesto 263 at Modesto Muni – Chris Ebster shot a par 35 and Greg Jalli a 37 to lead the Jaguars to a Modesto Metro Conference victory. Michael Days paced the Panthers with a 42.

Enochs 234, Beyer 246 at Creekside – Sody Veras shot a 40 to lead the Eagles to an MMC win over the Pats, who got a 45 from Scotty Lucas.

Johansen 302, Davis 327 at Dryden – Daniel Pena’s 1-over 37 was the low round of the day as the Vikings held off the Spartans for an MMC victory. Nico Salazar carded a 45 for Davis.

Central Catholic 190, Oakdale 208 at Dryden – Matt Robinson and Michael Kelly each shot a 36, while Nick O’Brien fired a 37 to lead the Raiders to a Valley Oak League victory. David Myrtakis paced the Mustangs with a 38.
