Forecast forces reshuffling of 32nd Atch Pedretti baseball tournament
The schedule for the 32nd annual Atch Pedretti Baseball Tournament, hosted by Turlock High School, has been shuffled due to a forecast of rain Friday.
“Farmers love baseball season,” Turlock coach and tournament director Mark de la Motte said. “We make it rain!”
Originally scheduled for Thursday through Saturday, the eight-team tournament featuring seven squads from the Stanislaus District – Gregori, Modesto, Oakdale, Pitman, Sierra, Sonora and Turlock – will be played Wednesday and Thursday instead.
Friday’s forecast calls for near 100 percent chance of showers in the afternoon.
“We’re scrambling,” said de la Motte, whose Bulldogs lost to crosstown rival Pitman for last year’s tournament title. “We’re squeezing what we can into two days.”
If the weather holds, five of the eight teams will get the guaranteed three games. Only Gregori (2), Sonora (2) and Sierra (1) are slated to play less.
“Teams that don’t play three games will make up those games between themselves when they can,” de la Motte said.
