The Downey High volleyball team took a break from CCAL play Sept. 23 for a non-league game against Sierra.

Outside hitter Izzy Watson was the catalyst in the Knights’ 25-13, 25-21, 25-20 three-set sweep of the Timberwolves, tallying 16 kills and 14 digs in the win.

As of Friday, Oct. 4, Watson ranks seventh in the Sac-Joaquin Section and is the team leader in kills (264) and is second on the team in digs (188). Senior Alexis Monroy leads the team in digs with 209.

The fans noticed Watson’s performance against Sierra, voting her The Bee’s Girls Player of the Week.

Watson came in first, collecting 99% of the votes in the weekly poll. She finished ahead of Hughson volleyball player Emily Yarbrough and Orestimba flag football player Hailey Starr, who were second and third, respectively.
