Here is Stanislaus District fans’ pick for The Bee’s Girls Prep of the Week

One season after helping lead the Riverbank softball team to the Division VI section championship game, senior Denise Vargas is back for more.

She is among the top five on the team in every offensive category and has helped lead the Bruins to an 8-2 record through the season’s first three weeks.

One of Vargas’ best offensive games this season came in a 24-0 win over McNair on March 6. She recorded a pair of extra-base hits, cranking a double and a home run, drove in five runs, scored three times and stole a base.

The fans noticed her performance, voting her The Bee’s Girls Player of the Week.

Vargas earned 42% of the votes in the weekly poll. She finished first ahead of softball players Brooklyn Steeley (Central Valley) and Maddy Flores (Downey), who finished second and third, respectively.
