Here is Stanislaus District fans’ pick for The Bee’s Girls Prep of the Week
It is rare for a student athlete to break a school record. It’s even less common for a student to break a school record twice.
Don’t tell that to Downey High volleyball player Izzy Watson. After a pair of outstanding performances, the sophomore broke the school record for kills in a match twice this year. She originally put away 31 kills in a five set loss to Beyer to set the new school high record, then on Oct. 11, finished a five set win over Gregori with 37, breaking her own previous record.
She also added eight digs, six blocks and four aces to lead the Knights to their second Central California Athletic League win. At the end of the regular season, Watson ranks No. 16 in the Sac-Joaquin Section in kills with 295.
The fans noticed her performance, voting Watson The Bee’s Girls Player of the Week.
Watson came in first, earning 57% of the votes in the weekly poll. She finished ahead of her Downey teammate Chelsea Wey and Beyer volleyball player Fallon Freeman who came in second and third, respectively.
