Here is Stanislaus District fans’ pick as The Bee’s Girls Prep of the Week

The Escalon High volleyball team is young this year but first year varsity coach Shaylynn Beam believes they are continuing to improve as the season goes on.

As they fight to maintain second place in the competitive Trans Valley League, they will rely on seniors Kendra Gwartney, Macie Vickers and Sophia Martin.

Martin is the team’s kills leader and came up big in the team’s three set win over league opponent Hilmar on Monday, Sept. 25. She finished with a team high 11 kills and added eight digs and three blocks to give the Cougars their fourth TVL win.

The fans noticed her performance, voting her The Bee’s Girls Player of the Week.

Martin finished first, earning 94% of the votes in the weekly poll. She came in ahead of Escalon flag football player Sammy Lang and Ripon Christian volleyball player Leah Van Wyngarden who finished second and third, respectively.
