The Pitman boys basketball team made the playoffs this year for the first time since 2016, but it didn’t come without suspense.

It won its last two regular season games by less than five points and Avery Sanchez was a big reason why. The sophomore made clutch shots against Turlock and Enochs to finish CCAL play.

On Tuesday, Feb. 14, he came up big in the Division I play-in, scoring 25 points and grabbing five rebounds in a 53-52 win over Pleasant Grove.

The fans noticed his performance, voting Sanchez as The Modesto Bee Boys Player of the Week.

Sanchez earned 84% of the votes in The Bee’s weekly poll. He finished ahead of Modesto soccer player Brian Valenzuela Cabello and Oakdale wrestler Carlos Garcia, who came in second and third place.
