Caroline Souza has been the best player for Downey High’s girls soccer team this season.

The junior is one of the Central California Athletic League’s top three goal scorers and passers, with 14 goals and six assists.

Though the Knights are out of the playoff picture, Souza, who has committed to play at the University of Nevada, helped the team secure a 6-0 win in one of its final games.

Souza had one of her best performances of the season, scoring four goals and adding two assists against Modesto. The fans noticed her performance, voting Souza The Modesto Bee’s Girls Player of the Week.

Souza won the weekly poll, earning 43% of the more than 62,000 votes. She finished ahead of basketball players Dailynn Greener (Pitman) and Bethany Albarran (Johansen), who came in second and third place, respectively.
