With two weeks left in the season, Pitman was just one loss away from falling out of the postseason picture, which meant virtually every game was important.

The Pride entered their game Wednesday, Feb. 1, against Modesto, looking to extend their Central California Athletic League game winning streak to three games. Leading scorer and rebounder Avery Sanchez was great when his team needed it.

The sophomore helped the Pride keep their spot in the playoffs with 23 points, seven rebounds and two steals in a 62-36 win. The fans noticed his performance, voting him The Modesto Bee’s Boys Player of the Week.

Sanchez won the weekly poll, earning 75% of the votes. He finished ahead of basketball players Jed Ladine (Turlock) and Lloyd French (Downey), who came in second and third place, respectively.
