The Riverbank girls basketball team is in position to capture a share of the 2023 Trans-Valley League title, the program’s first league championship since 2015.

The Bruins are in the midst of their first 20-win season since 2013-2014 with a victory over Oakland High and a third-place finish in the Manteca Christmas Classic.

Sophomore Taylor Macias, the team’s leading scorer, has proven to be a difficult match-up for opposing defenses, averaging 15.7 points a game.

She continued her outstanding season against TVL opponent Ripon High, posting offensive and defensive career highs as her 31 points and seven steals helped the Bruins secure a 60-38 win. The fans noticed her performance, voting Macias The Modesto Bee’s Girls Player of the Week.

Macias won the weekly poll, earning 49% of the votes. She finished ahead of Escalon basketball player Analise Silveira and Pitman soccer player Lillyana Rodriguez, who came in second and third place, respectively.
