The only thing better than one championship is two.

The Big Valley Christian softball team won the Sac-Joaquin Section Division VII on May 21 and two weeks later, on June 4, secured the first ever CIF Northern California Division V Regional Championship with a 5-3 win over Los Altos.

After securing a 22-6 record, ending the season on a six-game win streak and taking two titles in one season, The Lions softball team was voted The Bee’s Girls Team of the Year by the fans. They gained 54% of the more than 19,500 votes in our poll.

The Lions were led by pitcher and All District honoree Ava Hernandez, who ended the season with an impressive 21 wins and the sixth most strikeouts in California. She also led the team with a .522 batting average and 47 hits. Emily Avila (.411), Trinity Beers (.447) and Cecily Fontana (.463) all joined Hernandez in batting above .400 on the season.

Fontana, a freshman finished with 36 RBIs, 11 doubles and three triples, all team highs, and Beers led the team with three home runs.

The Lions will return all but two seniors as they look to put together another successful season next spring.
