Here’s Stanislaus District fans’ pick as The Bee’s Boys Prep of the Week
Turlock Christian’s Gavin Farinha helped his team make history.
The left-hander led the Eagles to a 1-0 win over Valley Christian in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division VII Championship game to secure the school’s first section title.
He was nearly perfect in the championship game. Farinha pitched seven shutout innings, only allowed one hit and struck out 14 batters. At the plate, he had one hit and drove in the Eagles’ only run of the game in the first inning. The fans noticed, voting him The Modesto Bee Boys Player of the Week for the second time in three weeks.
Farinha finished in first place with an overwhelming 95% of the votes in the weekly poll. He finished ahead of track and field athletes Steve Mai of Enochs and Hughso’s Joseph Lighthall, who finished in second and third place, respectively.
