Three players score goals as Pitman girls soccer beats Downey in CCAL opener
Pitman girls’ soccer is on its way to yet another successful season. The Pride are the fifth-ranked team in the Sac-Joaquin Section and sit at 29th in California, according to MaxPreps.
Tuesday, they opened Central California Athletic League play at Downey High, winning 6-0 in their first game of the new year.
The Pride (10-1-1) were led by forward Isabella Green’s hat trick – the senior scored in the fifth, 12th and 41st minutes. Senior Camila Stephens scored twice and sophomore Lillyana Rodriguez added one goal.
Oregon State signee Mya Sanchez finished with three saves.
Head coach Annabel Rangel feels her team is playing its best soccer of the season. After a tough slate of non-league games, she says Pitman is prepared for the talent it will see in the CCAL.
“We’re coming off a tough preseason, so this is a good game for the girls to kind of get back after the break,” Rangel said. “They worked well together.”
The Pride have only played one game with a full roster this season, a 2-1 road win over Pleasant Grove, but as players begin to return from injury, Rangel says the team is “looking forward” to league.
