The Beyer and Oakdale boys cross country teams advanced to the CIF State Meet after a strong showing on Saturday at the Sac-Joaquin Section meet in Folsom.

Led by winner Caleb Cavanaugh and runner-up Dax Daley, Oakdale finished first in the Division III race.

Cavanaugh completed the race in 16 minutes, 26.9 seconds, just ahead of teammate Daley, who was second in 16:30.9.

The runner-up Patriots were led by Nathaniel Olsen, who finished sixth in 16:50.7.

Those teams will be joined by the Oakdale girls team, which finished second in the Division III competition. The Mustangs were led by fourth-place finisher Haleigh Humble, who completed the course in 19:26.7.

Among other Stanislaus District runners to win their races on the rolling dirt hills of the Willow Hill course were Pitman’s Damian Garcia, who finished first in Division II in 16:01.9 and Sonora’s Adin Dibble, who won the Division IV race in 15:41.2, placing just ahead of teammate Broen Holman, who finished with the same time.

There were five boys and five girls varsity races featuring the section’s top teams, with two or three of the top teams and roughly the top five individuals not on those teams advancing to the State Meet on Nov. 27 at Fresno’s Woodward Park.

The times of Dibble (2nd), Holman (3rd) and Garcia (9th) were among the Top 10 in the entire boys field.

Among others advancing to Fresno from the Stanislaus District:

  • Pitman’s Efren Sanchez, who finished ninth in Division II in 16:46.0
  • Waterford’s Evan Espinoza, who finished third in the Division V race in 17:14.9.
  • Modesto High’s Melissa Barajas, who finished fourth in Division I in 18:57.4.
  • Ripon’s Annie Wild, who finished sixth in the Division IV race in 19:53.0.
