Turlock’s Tyler Soderstrom officially signs with Oakland A’s for reported $3.3 million
Catcher Tyler Soderstrom is officially a member of the Oakland Athletics after signing with the team on Monday.
Soderstrom, who was taken with the 26th pick in the 2020 MLB Draft on June 10, will forgo his college eligibility at UCLA and begin his professional career.
Terms of the contract were not released but MLB.com reporter Jim Callis reported Soderstrom, a Turlock High graduate, signed for $3.3 million which was nearly $700,000 over the slot value for the pick ($2,653,400).
Callis also reported the signing bonus is the largest ever for a prep catcher in the bonus-pool era, which began in 2012.
The team announced Soderstrom will join their 60-man player pool and report to the alternate training camp.
The A’s released their player pool roster on Sunday but Soderstrom was not on the list as he had not yet signed.
