All Stanislaus County public high school competitions were suspended on Friday until further notice.

The decision was based on the fact that a vast majority of districts have already suspended contests and operations, according to area athletic directors.

The suspension of activities begins Mondays. Teams and athletes will still be allowed to practice.

The decision was made by the superintendents of all Stanislaus County districts.

There is not a timeline for a potential return date but teams are still allowed to practice.

Merced Unified School District suspended all sporting events on Thursday until April 1, when they will re-evaluate the status.

A majority of the districts and schools in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section have also suspended athletics for an extended period of time.

Earlier Friday, Stanislaus County Schools Superintendent Scott Kuykendall said schools in the Stanislaus District would remain open.

CIF Executive Director Ron Nocetti will meet with section commissioners on Tuesday to decide the status of spring sports.
