The Ripon girls soccer team’s attempt at winning its third straight section title came to an end on Saturday as the Indians fell to El Camino, 3-1, in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV Championship at Liberty Ranch High School in Galt.

“We had the shot advantage (14-8) and court control and usually with those two things, you are walking away with the win,” Indians coach Bryce Perkins said. “We just couldn’t land our shots.”

Ripon won the last two Div. V championships before moving up to Div. IV this year.

Indians (20-5-1) junior Ariana Scholten scored in the 17th minute to give Ripon a 1-0 lead but Eagles (10-5-5) senior Hannah Gonzales-Moore scored two goals in the final eight minutes of the half.

Gonzales-Moore another goal early in the second half and maintained the lead the rest of the game.

Ripon’s season isn’t over as they advanced to the NorCal playoffs, which begin Tuesday.
