CIF State Wrestling Championships: Which area wrestlers advanced to the semifinals?

Friday was a tough day for local wrestlers at the CIF State Championships in Bakersfield.

While 14 boys and girls wrestlers are still in the hunt for a podium finish, only two advanced to the semifinals, which begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Central Catholic senior Faalia Martinez (137-pounds) and Pitman sophomore Lilly Freitas (150) have a chance to win individual titles.

Freitas won the 143-pound title last year while Martinez finished in third. The championship rounds begin at 6 p.m.

Turlock’s Michael Jeffus won the 285-pound title last year and 12 area wrestlers placed in the top eight.
