Wednesday’s Central California Athletic League boys soccer game between rivals Pitman and Turlock had it all.

There were spectacular goals, plenty of yellow cards, and both teams carrying momentum with leads.

Who the top team in the league is will have to wait another day as the Bulldogs and Pride tied, 2-2, at Pitman High School.

“To be honest, I was disappointed with how we played,” Turlock coach Doug Sperry said. “We are lucky to get out of this with a tie.”

The game was scoreless until Bulldogs (2-0-1, 12-3-1) senior Luke Redman scored on a header from a free kick near midfield from junior Eduardo Garcia.

Led by senior Felipe Lopez, the Pride (2-0-1, 6-6-1) controlled the possession for the rest of the half and Lopez had two shots that narrowly missed the net. Pitman tied the game at one in the 39th minute as senior Daniel Galdamez scored on a header.

“I thought we controlled the possession 60% of the game,” Pride coach Magdaleno Ramirez said.

Pitman took a 2-1 lead in the 51st minute on a shot from just outside the left side of the penalty box from senior Luis Robles. Turlock tied the game 15 minutes later on a header from Garcia.

Things escalated between some of the players on both sides in the final 10 minutes and the referees had to stop the game to talk to each of the captains as well as the coaches.

The two teams meet in the season finale on Feb. 12 at Turlock at 5 p.m.

“It was an eye-opening experience and hopefully we will learn from this,” Sperry said.
