Watch Gregori sophomore Cecelia Hogel hit a go-ahead three-run home run in the Jaguars’ win over Enochs
Turlock senior pitcher and Long Beach State signee Shelby Frutoz has been virtually unhittable this season.
Frutoz, who entered a Central California Athletic League game against Enochs with a 0.43 earned run average has struggled against only one team this year: Enochs.
For the third time this year, the Eagles got the best of Frutoz and beat the Bulldogs 4-2 to increase their lead in the CCAL.
“She is a great pitcher,” Eagles coach Moises Martinez said. “I think we do well against that type (hard-thrower) of pitching.”
In their first two meetings, both wins by Enochs, the Eagles scored six runs (Frutoz had allowed 10 runs all year).
The Eagles scored two in the top of the first on a two-run single by sophomore center fielder Kayla Simpson and Enochs (12-3-1, 9-2) added two more in the fourth on a RBI double by senior catcher Morgan Leonard and RBI single by sophomore shortstop Gwyneth Ludwig.
The win snapped a two-game losing streak for Enochs.
“We came together more today than I have seen all year,” Martinez said. “We can’t take anything for granted the rest of the year.”
In her first start of the year, sophomore pitcher Isabella Calvo threw a complete game for the Eagles while striking out five and allowing only three hits.
Frutoz had seven strikeouts for the Bulldogs (11-5, 7-3).
Ceres 12, Johansen 2: Freshman Brooklyn Heffernan went 4-for-4 with six RBIs as Ceres beat Johansen, 12-2, in a Western Athletic Conference game at Ceres.
Bulldogs senior Shania Evans had a two-run home run and now is tied with Heffernan for the team lead with 23 RBIs.
The Bulldogs are 13-3 and 9-1 in the WAC while Johansen fell 2-13 and 1-8.
Beyer 11, Lathrop 0: The Patriots (9-7, 5-4) won their fourth straight game. Junior Nevaeh Freitas had a home run and four RBIs while sophomore pitcher Paige Fisher struck out 11 batters in five innings.
Oakdale 14, Weston Ranch 0: Eight different Mustangs (16-0-1, 9-0) had an RBI in the win.
