Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs resume Thursday with soccer, tennis, diving
The Sac-Joaquin Section postseason continues Thursday with a loaded slate of soccer, tennis and diving action.
Seventeen girls soccer teams from the Stanislaus District will compete in the quarterfinals: Gregori, Downey, Golden Valley, East Union, Oakdale, Manteca, Calaveras, Linden, Ripon, Hughson, Summerville, Orestimba, Amador, Mariposa, Modesto Christian, Ripon and Big Valley Christian.
The SJS southern diving trials will be held Thursday and Friday at Johansen High School’s B. Brent Bohlender Aquatics Facility. The varsity girls trials begin Thursday at 2 p.m., and the boys hit the water Friday at 2 p.m.
The section swimming trials will be held May 14-15, with the finals on May 16, at Tokay High School in Lodi.
Divisions I and II individual tennis tournaments begin Thursday morning at Johnson Ranch Racquet Club in Roseville. The D-II tourney begins at 11 a.m., and D-I starts at noon. Play continues for both divisions at 10 a.m. on Friday.
Beyer High School’s Ryan Lewis has emerged as the Stanislaus District’s top title contender in Division I, while Ceres’ Nolan McCaig and teammate Julio Ochoa will vie for the D-II championship.
In the individual co-ed division, play begins Thursday at 10 a.m. at Stockton’s Oak Park. Play continues Friday, beginning at 10 a.m.
The section team tournament resumes Monday with seven district squads still in contention: Gregori, Turlock, Ceres, Manteca, Sonora, Ripon and Escalon.
Also on Monday, the section D-I through D-VI baseball playoffs and the D-IV softball playoffs begin, while the Masters golf tournament will be held at The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton.
