MJC basketball: Women beat Cosumnes River while men come up short

Brenna McGinness had 17 points as the Modesto Junior College women’s basketball team beat Cosumnes River 43-36 on Friday.

The victory snapped a three-game losing streak for the Pirates, who improved to 2-4 in the Big 8 Conference, 3-14 overall.

Seven MJC players scored. McGinness also lead the team with 13 rebounds.

MJC men fall – The Pirates hung with Cosumnes River before losing 46-44. MJC led 23-21 at halftime.

Mitchell Love scored 13 points to lead Cosumnes River.

The Pirates dropped to 2-4 in the Big 8, 5-13 overall. Cosumnes River improved to 4-2, 13-7 and is in a tie for first with Santa Rosa and Sierra.
