Stanislaus State OF Patrick Mulry named to CCAA’s first team

Stanislaus State center fielder Patrick Mulry has been named to the 2016 All- California Collegiate Athletic Association first team.

Also, Warriors Jordan Kron and Aldo Koutsoyanopulos were second-team selections.

Mulry led the Warriors in nearly every major offensive category: hits (56), doubles (13), home runs (nine), slugging percentage (.599) and on-base percentage (.415). He tied for the team lead in RBIs (32), walks (21) and stolen bases (11). The Escalon High School graduate’s .335 average was second to Koutsoyanopulos’ .344, and his nine homers tied for the most in the league.

Mulry is the first CSUS outfielder to be named to the first team since Eli Davis in 2012.

Kron, a junior right-hander from Manteca, went 8-5 to become the school’s first eight-game winner in seven years. He led the CCAA with five complete games and 97 1/3 innings. His 57 strikeouts were the most on the Warriors’ staff.

Koutsoyanopulos, a junior transfer from Central Arizona College, earned all-league honors as a utility player. He was second on the team with 54 hits and tied Mulry for the team lead in RBIs.

Cal State East Bay’s Rudy Navarro, who batted a league-best .419, was named the league Most Valuable Player, while Cal Poly Pomona’s Michael Koval (8-3) was chosen as the league’s Most Valuable Pitcher.

Chico State’s Sonny Cortez, a transfer from El Camino College (Torrance), was the league’s Newcomer of the Year after hitting .362 with 29 RBIs and an OPS of .882. Nic Hernandez (.253, six homers, 26 RBIs) of Cal Poly Pomona was tabbed the Freshman of the Year.

Bob Ralston of Cal State East Bay was named the Coach of the Year after leading the Pioneers to a share of the league’s North Division title and a 32-18 overall record.
