Wallace lowers Modesto JC record in 100 to 10.30
California’s fastest community college sprinter, as of this weekend, is Donovan Wallace of Modesto JC.
Wallace will be watched closely the rest of the spring after his strong performance Saturday at the American River College Invitational. He won the 100-meter dash in a school-record time of 10.30 seconds and captured the triple jump with a leap of 47 feet, 3 inches, the best so far in Northern California.
It’s clear Wallace hasn’t slowed since 2010, when he won the NorCal title for MJC in the 100 and placed third in the state. Six years later, he erased Eric Adorno’s school-record 10.44 (2014). Earlier, Wallace joined Windsor Jamison, Justin Burton and Dante Berggren, who were timed in 40.99, the third-fastest 4x100 relay in school history.
Sophomore Daniel Roberts, the 2015 state champion in the hammer throw, discus and javelin, won the discus (172-3) and hammer (196-10) at ARC and placed third in the shot put. Teammate Erick Loomis was second in the hammer (186-2).
MJC women place – MJC’s 4x400 relay team – Dani Olson, Mariajose Correa, Harleen Pabla and Lia Burrell – picked up a third (4:00.84) at the ARC Invitational. Pabla, who also starred for the MJC soccer team, which reached the State Final Four – also was third in the 800 (2:20.59).
Breanna Lowther took third in the discus and shot put. Jordan McNeal was fourth in the 100.

Chico State 4-6, Stanislaus State 2-5 in Turlock – Chico State used home runs to sweep the host Warriors on Saturday. Chico won the series 3-1.
In the opener, the Wildcats (20-10, 17-9 California Collegiate Athletic Association) jumped in front 4-0, thanks mostly to Brynn Lesovsky’s three-run homer. Stanislaus (16-15, 13-13) scored in the fourth and sixth but missed chances to do more damage. The Warriors stranded 12 runners.
In the nightcap, Desiree Gonzalez and Cyrena Taylor hit back-to-back homers in the fifth to give Chico a 6-1 lead. Stanislaus responded with three unearned runs in the fifth and another run in the sixth on an RBI double by Morgan Balestreri to close the deficit to 6-5.
Stanislaus’ Ruby Quiralte went 3 for 4 in the first game and was 6 for 12 in the series with a homer and a double. Brianna Martens and Jill Costa had two hits apiece in the opener. Balestreri was 2 for 3 in the second game.
Kylie Ragsdale, the losing pitcher in the first game, contributed 2 2/3 innings of shutout relief in the second game.
Stanislaus welcomes a large field to its annual Tournament of Champions starting Friday.
