MJC baseball suffers tough 1-0 loss
Modesto Junior College’s Matt Burrows pitched well enough for a Big 8 Conference victory.
The win didn’t happen, however, as Sacramento pushed across an unearned run in the ninth inning and handed the Pirates a tough 1-0 loss Thursday afternoon at the MJC diamond.
Burrows (0-1), one of the heroes in Modesto’s win last week over San Joaquin Delta, allowed only six hits and struck out three in 8 1/3 solid innings. The Pirates supported him with six hits – two apiece by Spencer Thomas and Robert Steves.
The Pirates (7-14, 1-5) managed only two runs during their three losses to Sacramento (18-3, 6-0), the Big 8 co-leaders along with Santa Rosa.
Modesto opens a three-game series against Sierra on Saturday afternoon at Rocklin.
