Stanislaus men and women reach CCAA soccer final
The Cal State Stanislaus men’s soccer team has ridden Russ Klabough, the California Collegiate Athletic Association’s best goalkeeper, to the CCAA championship game.
Klabough, a first-team All-CCAA selection, denied three Cal State Dominguez Hills penalty kicks for a win in Friday’s semifinals. Stanislaus (15-3-2) will play for the league title Sunday at 3 p.m. against No. 2 seed and host Cal Poly Pomona.
It’s a rematch of the 2014 final in Turlock, won by Pomona on penalty kicks. Stanislaus won the conference title in 2012.
Scoreless tie – Modesto Junior College and Big 8 Conference-leading Santa Rosa played to a scoreless tie on Friday. The Pirates (11-7-1, 3-3-1) are in second place with one regular-season game left.

Friday’s shutout was the Warriors’ third straight. Goalkeeper Chelsea Lewandowski set a school career record with 28.5 shutouts after logging 9.5 this season.
“That was a tremendous effort in all phases of the game by our team. We felt confident coming into the match that we could beat Chico,” Stanislaus coach Gabriel Bolton said.
Winning streak – The MJC women (15-4, 9-3), sitting in second place in the Big 8, extended their winning streak to five with a 4-0 win over Sierra.

Claim Jumpers open 2-1 – Columbia College rang in its season with a 2-1 showing at Las Positas’ Tony Costello Tipoff Classic. She is the first Warrior runner in two years to be so honored.
