Stanislaus State soccer teams post big wins

The Stanislaus State women’s soccer team clinched a spot in the California Collegiate Athletic Association tournament with a 3-0 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday in Turlock.

The Warriors will make their sixth appearance in the CCAA tournament and fifth since 2010. As the sixth seed, the Warriors travel to meet No. 3 Cal State Los Angeles in a first-round match Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. The other first-rounder will feature Cal Poly Pomona at UC San Diego.

“This team has had to overcome incredible adversity this year,” Stanislaus State coach Gabriel Bolton said in a news release. “I couldn’t be happier for our seniors and the rest of our players.”

On Senior Night, senior and leading scorer Jordan Moineau took a pass from Gregori High School product Maryssa McDuffy and put it into the net to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute. It was Moineau’s seventh goal of the season.

For Stanislaus State’s second goal, Nichole Donald perfectly placed a pass from the backfield to the attack zone for Demi Gonis, who beat a defender and passed to Amanda Woodhouse for the score in the 35th minute.

Kirsten Coleman capped the Warriors’ scoring with an unassisted goal in the 69th minute.

Goalkeeper Chelsea Lewandowski now has 26.5 career shutouts, one shy of Breanna Vaughn’s school record.

Stanislaus State finished the regular season 10-5-3 overall and 5-4-3 in the CCAA. Dominguez Hills dropped to 4-13-1 and 2-9-1.
