Pirate Weekly: MJC baseball in first place conference standings

After winning its last five games, the Modesto Junior College baseball team are in first place in the Big 8 Conference standings.

The Pirates are 6-1 in conference play and 13-7 overall.

Freshman infielder Alex Daoud (Oakdale HS) leads the team with a .424 batting average and Branden Pasion (Gregori HS), Trent Prokes (Modesto HS), and Luke Brown (Cathlamet, WA) all hit above .300. Brown also leads the Pirates with 20 RBIs.

MJC host Cosumnes River on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.

Track: The Pirates competed in the Wildcat Cup at Cuesta College last week.

Rhiannon Genilla (Manteca HS) won the javelin throw event with a throw of 129-feet, 9-inches. Genilla’s throw is the best in the state.

The Pirates are home this Friday and host several schools in the 14th annual Jack Albiani Invitational

Basketball: Tommy Williams (Chavez HS) and Carson Anderson (Sierra HS) will be playing in the CCCAA men’s basketball sophomore showcase on Saturday at the College of the Sequoias. All participants must have made an all-conference team or been selected by coaches at the post-conference meeting to participate in the showcase.
