Kadry on Bowling: Last Chance Qualifier for Diddy Watts Youth event

The Last Chance Qualifier for the Diddy Watts Youth State Singles Challenge will compete at 9 a.m. Saturday at McHenry Bowl.

The five-game qualifier will advance one of three entrants to the semifinals starting at 1 p.m. Entry fee is $45.

The semifinals will include all youth bowlers who have advanced through local qualifying from over the state. The field will bowl a five-game block, moving after each game. There are three divisions: boys scratch, girls scratch and handicap (180 average and under).

With a full field, the top eight in each division will return for the double-elimination finals Sunday at 9 a.m. Winners will be declared state champions and receive a scholarship and jacket. Call June at 209-571-2695 for more information.

Local bowlers Will Garber and Rich Custer took fourth in the PBA Tony Reyes Memorial Tournament last weekend at 4th Street Bowl in San Jose. The pair finished the qualifying round in the second spot at 3,806. Kevin Harlin of Milpitas and Dupree Dickey of Oakland led qualifying at 3,817 and finished eighth on the final list. Garber and Custer advanced to the round-robin match-play finals and finished with an 8,482 total. They earned $1,700. The tournament’s namesake, PBA member Tony Reyes, was killed in an auto accident in 2012. He ran the pro shop at 4th Street Bowl.
