The Modesto Nuts’ offense continued to put up crooked numbers on the scoreboard against host Stockton, defeating the Ports 9-3 on the strength of two four-run innings Monday night at Banner Island Ballpark.
After beating the Ports 13-2 on Saturday and 10-7 on Sunday, the Nuts nearly made it three straight games in which they scored in double digits. It’s just the second time the Nuts have won three in a row this season.
Drew Weeks continued making his case for hottest hitter on the planet, going 2 for 5 with two RBIs. In his last 11 games, since snapping an 0-for-10 skid that dropped his average to .194, the Nuts’ right fielder is hitting .422 with four doubles, three homers and 15 RBIs. Weeks had a two-run single in Modesto’s four-run ninth to help put the game on ice.
Shane Hoelscher, Wilson Soriano and Max White collected two hits apiece. White hit a three-run blast, his seventh homer of the season, in the Nuts’ four-run fourth.
Jack Wynkoop (3-1) earned the victory, allowing four hits and one run in six innings. He struck out seven and walked none, lowering his earned-run average to 3.03. Craig Schlitter pitched two innings, working around a hit and three walks, to earn his first save of the season.
The Nuts will be off Wednesday and then open a four-game home series against Bakersfield on Thursday at 7:05 p.m.
