Kadry on Bowling: Dues increase on agenda at Modesto USBC meeting

The annual meeting of the Modesto USBC is Sunday at 10 a.m. at McHenry Bowl. On the agenda will be a local dues increase of $2. Currently, membership dues are $18 per year – a $10 national fee, $1 state fee and $7 local fee. At the National USBC Convention in April, a national dues increase was approved as part of a package to cap the total national fee at $15. On the approved calendar, the first increase to bring national dues to $13 is slated for the 2017-18 season. At the California State USBC Convention in June, delegates approved a $1 increase in fees to bring them to $2 as of Aug. 1. If this local proposal passes, dues will be $21 this fall. Also on the agenda will be elections for one vice president, seven directors and three youth directors. Applications for these positions are at the bowling center desks. Although the nomination period has closed, nominations will be accepted from the floor at the meeting. ...

The team of Evelyn White, Pat Baskin and Roseann Martinez won the Ladies Luncheon No-Tap Tournament at Yosemite Lanes with a score of 2,176. Crystal Hobdy, Alice Lazzerini and Barbara Warner rolled a 2,094 set to finish second. Claudelle Bonaccinie, Ann Zuidema and Charlotte Scott placed third with a 2,084. ...

Laverne Howe, and Betty Gerritsen and Bonaccinie teamed to win the Ladies Trio Tournament at McHenry with a 2,382 total. Alice Quayle, Jennifer Kadry and Char Moscato tallied a 2,260 to take second place. Carol Riggs, Dolores Bavaro and Barbara Webb were third with a 2,220. ...

Squads are filling up for the last three weekends of the 67th annual Peach Classic at McHenry. The tournament runs Saturdays and Sundays with squads at noon, 2:30 and 5 p.m. First place is guaranteed at $2,500, 100th place pays $100, and the total prize fund has a $25,000 guarantee. On Friday, the Senior Singles No-Tap Tournament runs at McHenry starting at 1 p.m. Potluck kicks off the day at noon, and check-in is at 12:30 p.m. There is a separate prize list for men and women. ...

The Central Valley Senior Bowling Club visits Manteca Bowl for its monthly singles tournament Saturday at 1 p.m. The format for each event starts with four games of qualifying. The top three scorers will participate in a stepladder final round immediately after the qualifying. Registration is from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tournament fees are $40 per event. If you are not a member, you may join at registration for $20. If you don’t want to join, guest fees are an additional $10, but bowlers must join if they cash in. Entries are out for the second annual McHenry Sizzlin’ Summer Doubles No-Tap Tournament. The event has men’s, women’s and mixed divisions and is open to McHenry winter and summer league bowlers. Nine squads are available and run from Aug. 30 through Sept. 5. Participants can bowl as many times as they wish, but they may place only once with the same partner. USBC certified coach Steve Plant is holding adult drop-in classes every Thursday at 12:30 p.m. at McHenry. The classes are open to beginning through advanced levels. The $5 cost includes bowling, shoe rental, instruction and a snack. No reservations are necessary.
