Kadry on Bowling: Battisti takes Central Valley Senior title
Paul Battisti earned the title in the Central Valley Senior Bowling Club stop at Bellevue Bowl in Atwater last weekend.
Battisti qualified first at 994, followed by Gene Stamps at 984 and Jay Faughn at 983. All three are from Modesto. Faughn and Stamps were matched in the first roll-off in the stepladder finals. Faughn won 219-209. Battisti was waiting in the wings and came out strong, rolling a 267 against Faughn’s 200. Battisti earned $190 for the win. Faughn took home $160 and Stamps $144. The tournament paid 19 places.
Next month’s tournament will be hosted by Manteca Bowl.
▪ The Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Golden Aged Bears Fundraising Tournament rolled at McHenry Bowl last weekend. The tournament helps to fund local veteran bowlers to attend the Golden Age Games in Chicago later this year. Taking first on the men’s side was Karl McCullough with a 745 set. Dick Carlson placed second with his 724. In third was Mark Cooley with a 710. Topping the women’s list was Amy Bentancourt, scoring a 718. Payton Cummins was second with a 706 and Rachel Smith third with a 609. The tournament earned nearly $500 for the fund.
▪ Lana Trantham teamed with Janet and Loren Spooner to win the Mixed Kegler Trio Tournament at McHenry. The team scored 2,466. Joyce and Eddie Lewis joined David Brown to take the second spot at 2,389. Brown rolled an 836 set to boost their total. The team of Dan Erreca, Manny Simas and Bill Sterling took third place with a 2,240 score.
▪ Doubles partners Betty Tull and Margaret Dodd won the McHenry Doubles No-Tap Tournament, finishing with a 1,647 total. Russell Sanborn and Chris Dickinson posted a 1,637 to place second. Jim Bass teamed with Beth Sims to score 1,620 for third place. Gary Pattee and Earl Purcell each recorded a no-tap 300 game.
▪ This Friday, the Yosemite 50 and Over No-Tap will run at 1 p.m. Check-in at 12:30.
▪ This weekend, the Peach Classic tournament at McHenry is offering Bonus Day money. Bowlers can earn $100 extra for scoring high for the day and $50 for second high. Squads are at noon, 2:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The five-game handicapped tournament runs every weekend at McHenry through July 31. First place pays a guaranteed $2,500, and the total prize fund is estimated to exceed $30,000. Call 209-571-2695 for more info or to reserve a spot.
▪ The Junior/Senior Firecracker Doubles at McHenry is on the calendar for 1 p.m. July 4. Teams are made up of one youth (age 18 and under) and one adult (age 55 and over). No averages are needed to bowl. If you don’t have a partner, you can be matched with someone. Entry includes a barbecue lunch, cash place money for the seniors, scholarships for the youth and lots of prizes. ▪ The PBA Battle of Black Oak Lanes ProAm runs this Friday at 6:30 p.m. This is an adult-only tournament. Bowlers will bowl three games with three different pros. Cost is $50 for bowling and a T-shirt, or $150 to include a Storm Pitch Blue bowling ball. Call Black Oak Lanes at 209-928-9419.
