Kadry on Bowling: Deadlines for Modesto award nominations are near
Time is short to submit a nomination for the 2015 Modesto Hall of Fame or Pioneer Award.
The prestigious Pioneer Award honors deserving bowling supporters for their longtime commitment to the sport in the Modesto area. Forms must be received at either bowl desk at Yosemite Lanes or McHenry Bowl by midnight Saturday.
Nominees for the Hall of Fame may be submitted in either Meritorious Service or Superior Performance, for a man or woman, either living or posthumous. To be eligible, a nominee must have been a member of a Modesto Bowling Association for at least 20 years, unless submitted in a posthumous category. To be eligible for the Pioneer Award, the nominee must have supported bowling through service, sponsorship and/or participation for 30 years or more. ...
League qualifying for the 2015 California State BVL Tournament continues through Feb. 8. League bowlers pay $1 at the start of league play and use their league scores for qualifying. The tournament has five divisions for men and six for women based on averages. Qualifying runs for two weeks and bowlers may try to qualify multiple times. The winners will represent Modesto USBC in the state finals March 21 at McHenry Bowl. ...
It’s time to apply for Modesto USBC scholarships. The Hall of Fame Scholarship is awarded to youth bowlers who are graduating seniors. The award recognizes bowling ability and involvement, as well as scholastic achievement. The Director’s Scholarship can be won multiple times starting in ninth grade. It is open to children or grandchildren of current adult league bowlers, and they do not need to be bowlers to apply. Applications for either scholarship can be picked up at McHenry or Yosemite Lanes and are due by April 15. ...
Marlene Katsufrakis, Chris Johnson and Kelly Napuunoa won the Mixed Kegler Trio Tournament at McHenry with a 2,407 team score. Second were Larry Barker, Cindy James and Ray Swickard (2,437), followed by Lana Trantham and Janet and Loren Spooner (2,436). ...

USBC Silver Certified Instructor June Brown is offering instruction and practice clinics Wednesday afternoons from 4 to 5 p.m. at McHenry.
