Kadry on Bowling

Winter bowling leagues are sweeping out this week and the summer league program is gearing up to start the week of May 16 and run through the end of August.

Local bowling centers are offering a complete lineup of beginner to advanced handicap and scratch leagues. Spots are open for singles, couples or teams in youth, adult and senior leagues.

The end-of-league tournaments are making their annual showing next week. At McHenry, the 37th annual Tournament of Champions for winning teams and the 23rd Annual Cellar Dwellers Tournament, made up from the last-place teams, both run next week at McHenry. The Pot of Gold Tournament will be rolling at Yosemite during the same time period, and is open to all leagues participating in the Pot of Gold program.

The San Joaquin Youth Travel League has completed this season’s competition and the champions have been named. The McHenry White team claimed the title with 160 win points. Team member are Kyle Rosenberg, Aidan Coleman, Riley French, Sebastian Ruthford and Elijah Torres.

In a close second place, the Manteca Bowl team posted 154 win points. Its roster included Gabe Onate, Rayden Onate, Kelvin Meyer, Tyler Costa and Anthony Favaloro.

In the Boys Division 1, Rayden Onate won the high game and series of 262/854. In Boys Division 2, Johnathan Maragos from Pacific Avenue Bowl in Stockton won the high game and series at a 289/1,042.

In the Girls Division 3, the high game was a 220 and won by Amanda Ferrigno. High series in the division was a 718 recorded by Amelia Wood. Both girls bowled out of Pacific Avenue Bowl. In Girls Division 4, Heidi Zumstein won both the high game and series awards after she bowled a 268 game and 845 series. High averages in the league were Logan Woolen, 176 (Division 1); Roman Heath, 222 (Division 2); Vivian Serrano, 157 (Division 3); and Haley Woodard, 192 (Division 4).

Heath and Serrano are from McHenry, Woolen and Woodard hail from West Lake Bowl in Stockton.

In the partner league, the San Joaquin Youth Travel League Juniors, the McHenry Blue team won the title. Winning teammates are Max Ruthford, Yuki Claudio, Fonzy Cadiz, Borgie Bueno and Yobie Bueno. The team won by a distance when they amassed 198 win points to take the championship.

The second place team from Yosemite Lanes recorded 130.5 win points. The team lineup included Marina Hair, Katie Wayman, Caiden Christensen, James Alcaraz, Jacob Gaddam and Carter Christensen.

In Boys Division 1, Noah Bradley from Manteca Bowl rolled a 570 to take the series award. James Alcaraz posted a 168 game for the high game. Boys Division 2 winners were Manteca’s Jason Rice, who rolled a series of 854, and Jason Gaddam’s game of 257.

Fiona Shelby from Pacific Avenue Bowl held the high series of 419 in the Girls Division 3. For Girls Division 4, Morgan Bates from Manteca was high for series at a 689, and Olivia Maragos from Pacific Avenue posted the high game of 196. High averages were Noah Bradley, 131 (Division 1); Jason Rice, 179 (Division 2); Fiona Shelby, 95 (Division 3); and Morgan Bates, 153 (Division 4). Bradley, Rice and Bates bowl out of Manteca and Shelby is from Pacific Avenue.

This Sunday, the May Scratch 6-Gamer competes at Yosemite starting at noon. The sweeper will be rolled on the USBC Nationals Doubles & Singles Pattern. Entry fee is $60 and there will be added prize money from Freddy’s Tree Service. Optional brackets, high game pot, last game pot and senior insurance will be available.

This Friday, the senior no-tap tournament competes at McHenry. The event has a separate prize fund for men and women. Potluck at noon, check-in at 12:30 and tournament scoring at 1 p.m.
