Kadry on Bowling: Modesto’s Sutton is second in senior club’s March tournament
Fresno’s Milo Coronado claimed the title in the Central Valley Senior Bowling Club’s March tournament at Yosemite Lanes.
Coronado qualified first at 1,026 to earn a berth in the final round. Merced’s Keith Docherty qualified second at 1,022, followed by Steve Sutton of Modesto with 1,003.
Docherty and Sutton faced each other in the semifinal round with Sutton winning 242-225. Sutton moved on to the final round against Coronado. In a 278-242 match, Coronado took the title and first-place purse of $193. Sutton took second-place money of $163.
Bob Gomes of Merced posted a 300 game during the event. The next CVSBC match is set for West Valley Bowl in Tracy on April 16. ...
Jeff Williams of the Suburban League is leading the month-long Bowling for the Cure Tournament at McHenry Bowl. Williams rolled games of 277-256-213 and added 94 pins handicap for an 840 handicap series. Lana Trantham of the Mixed Match Point is in second place at 838. Sitting in third is Norm Honberger after he posted an 826 set in the Wednesday Mixed Fives. In the tournament, bowlers pay $1 and use their league scores to place on the prize board. The last day to enter is March 28. All proceeds go to American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. ..
The team of Roseanne Martinez, Debbie Couch and Cindy James won the Yosemite Ladies Luncheon No-tap with a 2,278 score. Nancy Speltz, Roxanne Grubb and Jan Rupp-Vigneau finished second with a 2,132 total. Taking third at 1,093 was the team of Darlene Valocsik, Charlotte Scott and Claudelle Bonaccinie. ...
The winning team in the Mixed Kegler Trios No-Tap at McHenry was Fritz Klatt, Larry Bolles and Ron Quintanal scoring a 2,371. Taking second was the team of Bre Sandoval, John Garcia and Rick Lazaro bowling a 2,356 total. Joyce and Eddie Lewis teamed up with Betty Gerritsen to take the third with a 2,337 score. ...
In the Yosemite Senior No-Tap Tournament, Debbie Diel was the high scorer and topped the ladies’ list with her 955 set. Betty Gerritsen came in second at a distant 870. Sylvia Williams earned the third spot with an 857. On the men’s side, Mike Byers topped the list with his 929. Wayne Sexton ranked second scoring a 915. Rounding out the top three was Carl Elvick with an 862. ...
This Friday, the Swing into Spring Crazy Bowl No-Tap Tournament runs at McHenry. There is one surprise crazy game scheduled along with an 8-pin and 9-pin no-tap game. Potluck at noon, check-in at 12:30 p.m. and tournament scoring at 1 p.m. ...

The Modesto USBC Brunswick Masters Tournament is taking reservations for its April 2-3 run at Yosemite Lanes. Entry fee is $135, and first place is guaranteed $3,000. Two qualifying squads are scheduled for April 2 at either 11:30 a.m. or 3:30 p.m. Top scorers will return the morning of April 3 for the final double-elimination rounds. The second annual Bowler Appreciation Picnic is scheduled for April 16 at Enslen Park in Modesto from noon to 4 p.m. Tickets are $5 per family. Meal includes hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, cookies and soda. There will be games and prizes. Tickets are available at the bowl desks.
