Kadry on Bowling: Spring Training, Damn 10 Pin lead Modesto City Tournament
After the first weekend of the Modesto City Tournament, the leading teams are Spring Training and Damn 10 Pin.
Spring Training leads the mixed division with a 3,181 total. Team members are Bonnie Garber, Krista Panigiris, Russ Mount and Cody Christensen. Garber paced the team with her 782 set on games of 237-268-277.
In the men’s division, Damn 10 Pin has a 2,977 total. Paul Smith, Brad Beckner, Rudy Marquez and Jeff Yarnell make up the roster.
Steve Davis and Jim Gordin top men’s doubles after posting a 1,500 total at McHenry Bowl. Davis rolled a 781 set, including games of 266-290-225. In women’s doubles, Cristina Robillos teamed with Rebecca Johnson to score a 1,370 total. The mixed doubles leaders are Linda Barr and Ron Dorville with a 1,607 total. Singles leaders are Alex Bermudez with an 806 handicap set and Linda Barr with a 736 handicap set.
The tournament finishes this weekend, and walk-ins are welcome. The team event is at Yosemite Lanes, and doubles and singles are at McHenry. The Saturday squad runs at 11 a.m., and Sunday squads are at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. ...
The doubles team of Royce Sappenfield and Curtis Varvel are leading the Modesto USBC Senior City Doubles No-tap Tournament. They rolled a 1,613 set. It’s not too late to join; the last squad runs at Yosemite this Friday at 1 p.m. Bowlers who have already competed can change partners and bowl again. In the City Youth Singles Tournament, Colby Patereau is sitting in first for the Junior/Major Division with his 804 set. Carter Christensen leads the Bantam/Prep Division with a 723 series. Fresno State bowling coach Chris Preble needed no coaching to win the monthly Yosemite Scratch 6-gamer Sweeper. Preble led qualifying with a 1,384 and waited for his turn in the final stepladder round. Qualifying second was Joe Petrovich at 1,363, followed by Nick Kelley at 1,361. Kelley defeated Petrovich 257-253 in the stepladder round. Preble then defeated Kelley 238-209 to take home $380. Kelley earned $280 for his second-place finish. ...
The team of Claudelle Bonaccinie, Laverne Howe and Betty Gerritsen teamed up to win the Ladies Trio No-tap Tournament at McHenry with their score of 2,441. Cindy James, Tena Cozby and Carol Hancock placed a distant second with a 2,153 total. ...
This Friday, the Yosemite Ladies Luncheon Tournament runs at 9:30 a.m. Cost is $10 per person with an optional side pot for $3. It’s a potluck, and everyone is invited to bring finger foods. ...
The Modesto USBC Masters Tournament is taking registration. The tournament is scheduled for April 2-3 at Yosemite. On April 2, there will be two seven-game qualifying squads. The first squad, at 11:30 a.m., is limited to 64 spots. The second squad is at 3:30 p.m. and has no limitations. The top 24 scorers will return April 3 at 9 a.m. for the two-game double-elimination finals. First place is guaranteed $3,000, and one in four entries will cash. Entry fee is $135.
