Arizona-bound golfer tops Gregori tournament

The inaugural Jaguar Invitational, Gregori High’s 13-team tournament, produced low early-season scores Monday at Spring Creek Country Club.

Jesuit’s David Laskin, one of three players in the field bound for the University of Arizona, shot a 1-under-par 70 and birdied the first playoff hole to edge Dean Bottini of St. Mary’s for medalist honors. Blake Hathcoat of team champion Clovis North matched par at 71 for third place.

Clovis North totaled 375 strokes, two better than runner-up Jesuit. Gregori’s Blue team, one of two from the host school, placed sixth and was led by Greg Jalli and Chris Ebster, who both posted 76. Oakdale, which finished eighth, was led by David Myrtakis with 79.

Other local teams in the field: Ripon 491 (10th), Big Valley Christian 501 (11th), Enochs 530 (12th) and Gregori Blue 535 (13th).

Laskin, Drake Mendenhall (73) of Granite Bay and Brad Reeves (74) of Lodi will continue their golf careers at Arizona.
