Kadry on Bowling: 995 wins a title at senior tournament

Michael Coe claimed the title in the Central Valley Senior Bowling Club’s inaugural tournament held at McHenry.

Coe, bowling out of Merced, qualified in the top spot with a 995 set over four games. Local bowler John Young qualified second with a 990. Rounding out the top three and stepladder finalists was Gene Piasecki of Dublin with a 986.

In the first stepladder match, Piasecki defeated Young 220-208. Coe then defeated Piasecki 226-178 to go home with the title, a berth in the Tournament of Champions and $190. Piasecki earned $160.

Fresno’s Milo Coronado scored the only 300 game.

The next meet for the CVSBC will be hosted by Yosemite Lanes on March 19. Entry and membership forms are available at local bowling centers. …

Garrad Marsh finished his four-year term as mayor by rolling another 300 game, his 17th career perfecto and one each year as mayor. This one came in the Black Oak Classic League. ...

Scoring was close for the Mixed Kegler Trio Tournament at McHenry. The team of Dave Moren, Thomas Teague and Jesse Parks took first with a 2,288 total, one pin ahead of Joyce and Eddie Lewis and David Brown. Tied for third at 2,275 were the teams of Laverne Howe, Jerry Allard and Bud Thompson, and the Swickard team of Beth, Ronald and Mike. ...

Jim Cole topped the men’s side of the Yosemite Senior No-Tap with an 878 set. Curtis Varvek posted an 869 for second, followed by Max Norris in third with an 852. LaDonna Stone had a healthy lead on the women’s side, scoring a 916 total. Sylvia Williams ended in second with her 858. Tricia Norris rounded out the top three with an 843. ...

On Friday, the McHenry Senior No-tap Tournament competes at 1 p.m. Potluck at noon, and check-in at 12:30 p.m. ...

This Sunday is the February edition of the Yosemite Scratch 6-gamer. Tournament scoring starts at noon; check-in is at 11a.m. Entry fee is $60, and Freddy’s Tree Service will be adding money. ...

The 2016 Modesto City Tournament is only two weeks away on the weekends of March 5-6 and 12-13. The team event will be at Yosemite Lanes, and doubles and singles will be at McHenry. Saturday squads run at 11 a.m. Sunday squads are at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. This year, bowlers can divide their doubles and singles event between two squads. Entry fee is $25 per event. All events are optional, and it’s $10 for the handicap list and $20 for scratch. Entries close before the last squad. Teams are a four-person roster and are in two divisions: men’s and mixed. Doubles teams can be men, women or mixed. Singles will have a separate prize fund for men and women. ...

Running concurrently, the 2016 Modesto USBC Senior City Doubles No-tap Tournament is set for March 4 and 11 at 1 p.m. Doubles teams can be any combination of men and women, but there is only one prize list. Entrants must be 50 or older. Entry fee is $20 per person with an optional $3 side pot available. Bowlers may bowl both squads but cam only place once on the prize list with the same partner. ...

Modesto USBC Scholarship applications are available at the bowl desks and will be accepted until April 15. Two scholarships are available again this year: the Hall of Fame Scholarship, open to graduating seniors, and the Director’s Scholarship, open to high school students.
