Kadry on Bowling: Modesto City Tournament entries are available
Entries are available for the Modesto City Tournament at both local bowling centers next month. The team event will be held at Yosemite Lanes, and doubles and singles will roll at McHenry Bowl. The tournament runs two weekends – March 5-6 and 12-13. Saturdays have one squad running at 11 a.m. Sunday squads go at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Each team consists of four participants in two divisions: men’s and mixed. Mixed teams must have one person of the opposite sex on the roster. Doubles teams can be men, women or mixed. Bowlers can compete multiple times but cash only once on the prize list with the same partner. The singles event will have a separate prize fund for men and women. Bowlers can cash only once in singles using their highest score.
This year’s event has something new: Competitors can bowl their doubles and singles over two squads. All-events is optional and is $10 for the handicap list and $20 for the scratch list. Entries close before the last squad. ...
The Modesto USBC Senior City Doubles No-tap Tournament is set for March 4 and 11. Squad time is 1 p.m. Doubles teams can be any combination of men and women, but there is only one prize list. Entrants must be 50 or older. Entry fee is $20 per person with an optional $3 side pot. Participants may bowl both squads but place only once on the prize list with the same partner. ...
Claudelle Bonaccinie and Linda David won the Modesto 500 Club’s Spring Fling Doubles Tournament at McHenry. The pair rolled a 1,460 no-tap total. Kathy Ely and Sylvia Williams placed second with a 1,455 set. Lydia and Karl Sparks finished third with a 1,430 score, followed by Patricia and Terry Kirschman with a 1,409 total. ...
Kelly Napuunoa, Janie Casucci and Joyce Lewis won the McHenry Ladies Trio Tournament with a 2,433 total. Bonnie Martin, Sandy Pastorelli and Janice Guenther were a distant second with a 2,324. Claudelle Bonaccinie, Laverne Howe and Betty Gerritsen took third with a 2,306. ...
BVL qualifying rounds are running at both bowling centers this week and next. League bowlers pay $1 at the start of league play and use their league scores to qualify for a spot to represent Modesto at the state finals. The tournament is run in divisions with five divisions for men and six for women, all based on averages. The state finals will be held at Keystone Lanes in Lake Forest on May 14-15. ...
Two senior no-tap events are on Friday’s calendar. In the morning, the Yosemite Ladies Luncheon Trio Tournament rolls at 9:30 a.m. with potluck finger foods. Cost is $10 per person with optional $3 side pots. A monthly drawing will be held with three tickets for $1. At McHenry in the afternoon, the Sweetheart Doubles No-Tap will compete at 1 p.m. The no-tap doubles teams must be made up of one woman and one man. Potluck starts at noon, check-in is at 12:30 p.m., and tournament scoring begins at 1 p.m. ...
The Central Valley Senior Bowling Club presents its inaugural tournament Feb. 20 at McHenry Bowl at 1 p.m. Tournament fees are $40. Dues to join the club are $20 annually. Bowlers may bowl as guests with an additional $10 fee but must join if they cash in the event. Membership applications and tournament entry forms are available at both bowling centers.
