Kadry on Bowling: Modesto’s Garber advances to semifinals in PBA World Series of Bowling VII in Reno
The Geico PBA World Series of Bowling VII is in its second week of competition at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nev., and Wayne Garber of Modesto is still in the hunt.
In last week’s qualifying rounds, a match-play field of 24 was decided in each of the four “animal patterns.” Garber made the cut in the Cheetah Championships and competed in match play on Monday. He was paired against Markus Jansson of Sweden and in the best-of-five had three winning matches (230-173, 234-226, 247-190) to be one of eight players to advance to Wednesday’s semifinal rounds.
Also advancing to the round of 8 were Parker Bohn III of Jackson, N.J. (3-0), Norm Duke of Clermont, Fla., (3-1), Andrew Cain of Phoenix, Ariz. (3-1), Ron Mohr of Las Vegas (3-2), Rhino Page of Orlando, Fla. (3-2), Eugene McCune of Munster, Ind. (3-2), and Paul Moor of England (3-0). On Wednesday, Garber is set to face Bohn.
The top four will advance to the ESPN taping of the Cheetah Championship, scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday. The Cheetah Championship telecast will air locally at 10 a.m. Sunday. ...
This Sunday is the last chance to qualify for the year-end Yosemite Scratch 6-gamer Tournament of Champions. The sweeper runs at Yosemite Lanes at noon; check-in is at 11 a.m. The sweeper runs on the Kegel Eiffel Tower oil pattern. The TofC is set for Jan. 3. The field of 24 will be built from the past monthly champions and top money winners who have bowled at least two monthly events this year. Beth Sims, Kathy Ely and Lydia Sparks teamed up to win the Yosemite Ladies Luncheon No-Tap. The team posted a 2,197 winning score. The team of Jackie Wilson, Jodi Heaton and Fonda Jameson finished second with a 2,124 total. Finishing third with a 2,093 score was the team of Jackie Wirth, Sharon Ball and Lori Hedrick. ...
David Brown topped the scoring and led the men’s list in the Christmas Celebration No-Tap Tournament at McHenry. Brown posted an 893 total, including a no-tap 300 game. Gary Pattee was second after rolling an 852 score that also included a 300. Tracy Micheli came in third at 840. On the ladies’ side, Joyce Lewis finished in the top spot with her 812 series. Linda Faughn took second with an 809, and Marlene Katsufrakis was third with a 797. ...
The Senior 55 and Older No-Tap Tournament at Yosemite is this Friday at 1 p.m. The singles tournament has separate prize lists for men and women. Check-in is at 12:30 p.m. ...
If you’re looking for something to do this Thursday morning and are up for a little competition, the Kegler Trio No-Tap Tournament is rolling at McHenry. Check-in is at 9 a.m., and competition starts at 9:30. The tournament is handicapped, and teams are made up of any combination of men and women with a team max average of 660. Come with a team or by yourself and be placed on a team. ...
The deadline for reservations for the Senior New Year’s Eve in Paris Tournament at McHenry is fast approaching. Reservations must be made and paid for by Dec. 24. The tournament and party will include a light lunch, party favors, champagne glass and toast, prize drawings and colored pin money shots. Starting time is 11:30 a.m. Dec. 31, and the New Year will be celebrated at 3 p.m our time, midnight Paris time. ...
For a fun family Christmas outing, both bowling centers will be open for the holidays. McHenry will be open on Christmas Eve from 9 a.m.-11 p.m. and Christmas Day from noon-midnight. Yosemite will be open 24 hours on both days.
