Kadry on Bowling: Nominations open for Modesto Hall of Fame, Pioneer Award

The Modesto Hall of Fame has announced the opening of the nomination period for candidates to the Hall of Fame.

Nominees can be submitted in one of eight categories. Recognition is in either Meritorious Service or Bowling Ability, for a man or woman, either living or posthumous. The purpose of the Hall is to honor, pay tribute to and perpetuate the names of bowlers who have contributed to the growth and welfare of the game in the area.

To be eligible, a nominee must have been a member of a Modesto bowling association for at least 20 years, unless submitted in a posthumous category. The Hall currently includes 44 honorees on the rolls, 21 for service and 23 in the ability category, with 19 women and 25 men, six of whom were honored posthumously.

Nominations for the Pioneer Award also are open. The Pioneer Award honors deserving members of either bowling association for their longtime commitment to the sport. To be eligible, the nominee must have been an association member or sponsor for at least 30 years and supported bowling through service, sponsorship and participation. Only 25 people have been honored with this award in the 60-plus years of the organized association.
