Kadry on Bowling: PBA World Series VII comes to Reno
The PBA World Series of Bowling VII starts Dec. 7 at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno.
The World Series consists of several national and regional tournaments over 13 days.
Qualifying for each of the four PBA “Animal” patterns – Cheetah, Viper, Chameleon and Scorpion – will be held Dec. 8-11. The top 24 bowlers in each tournament advance to the best-of-five single-elimination match-play finals Dec. 14-16.
The PBA World Championship rolls the weekend of Dec. 12-13. The field will be filled with the top 25 percent of the bowlers in the four animal-pattern tournaments. The bowler’s combined score for the four events will determine the entrants.
Also competing that weekend is the PBA and PBA50 Tri-Region Open. Winding up the World Series platform is the PWBA-PBA Women’s Regional Challenge on Dec. 18. ESPN will air the final rounds of all the events from Dec. 17-19.
The PBA League starts its season Jan. 25, and the eight teams will fill their five-member rosters during the World Series. Three members from each team were protected from last year and hold their spots. The additional two spots will be drafted Dec. 17.
Teams and their protected members are: the Portland (Maine) Lumberjacks with Bryon Smith, Wes Malott and Osku Palermaa; the Philadelphia Hitmen with Dom Barrett, Chris Loschetter and Rhino Page; the LAX with Jason Belmonte, Stu Williams and Martin Larsen; the WTT Kingpins with Pete Weber, Scott Norton and Mike Fagan; the Dallas Strikers with Bill O’Neill, Tommy Jones and Norm Duke; the Motown Muscle with E.J. Tackett, Ronnie Russell and Josh Blanchard; Silver Lake Atom Splitters with Chris Barnes, Dick Allen and Tom Daugherty; and the Brooklyn Styles with Sean Rash, Parker Bohn III and Walter Ray Williams Jr. ...
On Thursday morning, Nov. 19, the Kegler Trio No-Tap Tournament competes at McHenry Bowl at 9:30 a.m. The tournament is open to teams of three in any combination of men and women. Come with a team or by yourself and be placed with other bowlers. Check-in begins at 9 a.m. ...
The annual Turkey Shoot Senior Singles No-Tap is set for Friday, Nov. 20, at McHenry. The potluck starts at noon. Check-in is at 12:30 p.m., and competition begins at 1. For the first game, three frames will be chosen at random, and if a bowler strikes in all three, he or she wins a turkey. In the second and third games, two frames are chosen and a bowler must strike in both to earn a turkey. Turkeys will be awarded until the supply is gone.
