Kadry on Bowling: State senior tournament wrapping up this weekend

The last squads of the 2014 California State Senior Bowling Tournament will finish this weekend in Modesto after five weekends of competition.

A few locals are on the unofficial prize list, estimated to pay out more than $60,000. Divisions are based on combined age of team members.

Holding the top spot in the All Events B division is David Brown with his 2,282 total. On the Team A list, with a combined age of 260-plus years, two teams are holding money spots – the Alley Cats (2,711) are seventh and team Team No. 354 (2,703) ninth.

In Doubles A (140-plus years), Richard Erler and Bill Calvin (1,380) are 27th, and Edward and Yvonne Mello (1,364) 32nd. In Doubles B (120-139 years), Frank Alcaraz Sr. and David Brown (1,457) are fourth, and Rick Lazaro and Jay Faughn (1,421) 13th. Debra and Jim Taliaferro (1,411) are tied for 18th in Doubles C (100-119).

In local Singles A (70-plus years), Jerry Gundlach (699) is tied for 25th. In Singles B (60-99), Ed Silva (822) is second, Bill Gordin (762) sixth and Teresa Duchscher (724) is tied for 26th.

The Ladies Luncheon No-Tap finished with the team of Ann Zuidema, Joyce Van Dyke and Dina Hvizda (2,163) taking first. Sharon Ball, Lori Hedrick and Jackie Wirth (2,143) were second, followed by Debbie Couch, Deanna Swickard and Cindy James (2,046). ...

Eddie Lewis, with a 946 that included a no-tap 300, won the men’s side of the Senior Turkey Shoot No-Tap at McHenry. Ken Powers (932) was second and Gene Stamps, with an 891 that included a no-tap perfecto, third. ... Chris Johnson (894) was high for the ladies, followed by Carol Almeida (872) and Bobbie Sargent (830). Thirty turkeys were given away to bowlers who rolled strikes in the correct frames. ... Mayor Garrad Marsh added another perfect game to his total after posting one, his 16th, in the Black Oak Classic. But the highlight of the night was his 1,073 total on games of 268-258-247-300, a 268 average. ...

The McHenry Kegler Trio tournament starts Thursday at 9:30 a.m. Check-in is at 9. Any combination of men and women can compete on the trio teams. ...

On Friday afternoon, the Yosemite Senior No-tap will roll at 1 p.m. Check-in is at 12:30. The singles tournament has a separate prize list for men and women. ...

If your family is together for Thanksgiving and looking for an activity before or after dinner, both local bowling centers will be open all day. For reservations, call Yosemite at 524-9161 and McHenry at 571-2695. At McHenry, bring in five items of canned or non-perishable food to bowl one free game. All food collected will be donated to the Interfaith Ministries food programs.

The “New Year’s Eve in Paris” bowling party and tournament held annually at McHenry is taking reservations. The event is scheduled for Dec. 31. Lunch is at 11:30 a.m. with competition starting at 12:30 p.m. At 3 p.m. locally – midnight Paris time – celebrants will ring in the New Year with party favors and a champagne toast.
