Kadry on Bowling: Prize lists posted for Sizzlin’ Summer Doubles No-Tap
Prize lists have been posted for three divisions in the Sizzlin’ Summer Doubles No-Tap Tournament at McHenry Bowl.
Topping the mixed division and winning $400 was the team of Joanne Gonzalez and Chuck Quiring. Gonzalez posted games of 300-265-278 for an 843, and Quiring had a 296-258-265 for an 819. The pair rolled a 1,721 total, including their handicap of 59 for the win. Joe and Kelly Cleary took the second spot and $250 with a 1,670 set. Joe rolled two no-tap 300 games to boost their total.
Daniel and Ron Myers won the men’s division for $400 with a score of 1,749. Daniel tallied a 737, Ron a 632, and the pair received 380 pins handicap. Bill Briscoe and Manny Simas placed second and shared $250. Briscoe scored a 771 and Simas a 775, and the pair earned 140 pins handicap for their 1,686 total.
Bre Sandoval and Cindy James teamed up to win the women’s division for $200. Sandoval’s 652 and James’ 641, plus 178 pins handicap, added up to their winning total of 1,471. ...
Kevin Harlin of Milpitas came from behind to win the Scratch 6-Gamer at Yosemite Lanes and take home $322. Harlin qualified for the stepladder finals as the fourth seed with a 1,385 total. He then steamrolled No. 5 qualifier Freddy Irvin of Modesto and went on up the ladder to Will Garber, David Street and finally the top seed, Darren Tang, to win his first Yosemite Lanes 6-Gamer since 2010. The win also secured a spot in the 2015 Yosemite Lanes Tournament of Champions. Tang, of San Francisco, was high qualifier at 1,447, including his last three games of 252, 289 and 300 (841). ...
The Mixed Kegler Trios became a Mixed Kegler Special Singles Tournament this month with John Garcia leading the pack with his 846 set. Eddie Lewis finished second with a 791. Placing third was Thomas Teague with 788. ...
Bernice Smith was the high scorer on the ladies’ side of the Friday No-Tap at McHenry. She totaled an 894. Joyce Lewis took second with her 804. In third was Betty Gerritsen’s 798 set. Mark Cooley topped the men with an 857. Bud Thompson rolled an 852 for second. Manny Simas was third with an 831. No-tap 300 games were shot by Ricci Gotelli and Gene Stamps. ...
Groundbreaking was held for the Aqua Entertainment Center in Los Banos. The 10-lane center will include a laser tag area, party room, arcade center and snack bar. A sports lounge will be added later. ...
This Friday, the Yosemite 50-and-over No-Tap Tournament competes at 1 p.m. Check-in is at 12:30. This is a singles event with separate prize lists for men and women. ...
The Top Dog competes at McHenry on Oct. 17 at 12:30 p.m. The tournament is a scratch event and open to sanctioned bowlers who are age 55 or older. Entry fee is $40, and the format has several layers of competition. All bowlers start with three games of qualifying, then advance to several cuts. Winners of the McHenry Bowler Appreciation Week were Mark Dagraca, $100 gift card; Esther Youngheim, $50 gift card; and Wilma Carlton and Mary Alice Metzler, $25 gift cards. Leroy Elting, Frieda Day, Art Nunes, Roger Lochry, Phil Martin and Debbie Hedrick won free bowling cards.
